The South African Football Association (SAFA) President, Dr. Danny Jordaan, has extended his congratulations to the women players of the country for their outstanding performances in 2024. Banyana Banyana and Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper, Andile Dlamini, was recognized for her achievements as she was nominated for the CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year award. Although she did not win, the SAFA President commended her growth and the accomplishments of other South African players.
In addition to Dlamini, Lebohang Ramalepe, Karabo Dhlamini, and Banyana Banyana midfielder Linda Motlhalo were honored by being named in the CAF Women’s Best XI. Dr. Jordaan expressed his pride in their efforts over the years and congratulated them on their achievements in 2024.
Furthermore, Mamelodi Sundowns were celebrated for clinching the Hollywoodbets Super League title after a 2-0 victory over the University of the Western Cape. Goals from Andisiwe Mgcoyi and Lehlogonolo Mashigo sealed the victory for the team at the Lucas Moripe Stadium. FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, also sent his congratulations to the champions and acknowledged SAFA’s dedication to the development of women’s football in South Africa.
In a letter addressed to the SAFA President, Infantino praised Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies FC for their hard work and success throughout the season. He commended the team members and the club for their achievement and thanked SAFA for their continuous support and commitment to women’s football development in the country.
The recognition and accolades received by South African women players and teams in 2024 highlight the growing talent and success of women’s football in the country. SAFA’s efforts in promoting and nurturing women’s football are being acknowledged on both a national and international level, paving the way for further growth and success in the future.
