Ruben Amorim’s Explanation for Not Watching Man Utd’s Penalty Shootout Loss to Grimsby

In a recent Carabao Cup clash between Manchester United and Grimsby Town, head coach Ruben Amorim found himself in a difficult position as his team faced a 2-0 deficit against the League Two side. Despite a second-half comeback that forced the game to penalties, Amorim chose not to watch the decisive shootout. When asked by ITV why he didn’t watch it, he simply stated that, at that point in the game, it was not important.

Amorim expressed his belief that focusing on the penalties would have been unfair to both teams. He emphasized the importance of the game itself, stating, “The beginning of the game, during the game, that’s what mattered.” The head coach also mentioned the need for time to reflect and make decisions about the team’s future, hinting that the upcoming international break could provide a much-needed opportunity for his players to regroup.

Despite the disappointing loss, Amorim defended goalkeeper Andre Onana, who faced criticism for his performance in the match. The coach emphasized that the team’s struggles went beyond individual errors, highlighting the overall environment and approach to the competition. He acknowledged that scrutiny would be intense given the team’s current form but praised his players for their effort and determination.

As Manchester United prepares for their next challenge against Burnley in the Premier League, Amorim expressed his apologies to the fans and reiterated his commitment to improving the team’s performance. The coach’s candid remarks shed light on the team’s struggles and the need for introspection and improvement moving forward.
