Remo Stars Lift Trophy As Rivers,Abia Warriors Secure Continental Ticket

Rivers United and Abia Warriors Secure Continental Spots in NPFL Matchday 37

On Sunday, Rivers United and Abia Warriors secured their places on the continent with a game to spare in Matchday 37 of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL). However, their exact positions on the league table remain uncertain until the final day of the season.

Rivers United currently sits in second place with 61 points, closely followed by Abia Warriors in third place with 60 points.

Despite suffering a 3-1 defeat to Kwara United in Ilorin, Rivers United managed to maintain their top-three position. Adeshina Gata opened the scoring for Kwara United six minutes before halftime, followed by Wasiu Alalade’s brace in the second half. Rivers United’s Ubong Friday managed to pull one back from the penalty spot in the final minutes of the game.

Meanwhile, Abia Warriors secured a 2-1 victory over El-Kanemi Warriors at home. Ismail Mukhar put El-Kanemi Warriors ahead late in the first half, but Emmanuel Ogbuagu and Adejoh Ojonugwa’s goals in the second half sealed the win for Abia Warriors.

Unfortunately, Sunshine Stars faced relegation after a 2-1 defeat to Niger Tornadoes at home. Ismael Saraki and Daniel Akanbek scored for Niger Tornadoes, while Ahmadu Liman briefly equalized for Sunshine Stars.

  • Abia Warriors 2-1 El-Kanemi
  • Akwa United 2-0 Bayelsa United

As the NPFL season draws to a close, the race for the title and continental spots intensifies. Fans eagerly await the final matchday to see where their favorite teams will finish in the league standings.
