A tragic incident has shaken the community of Kukpalgu in the Tatale-Sanguli District of the Northern Region, as a pregnant woman was fatally shot by unknown gunmen. The woman, who was part of a group returning from a prayer session, was hit in the stomach and tragically lost her life on the spot.

In addition to the pregnant woman, two others sustained injuries during the attack. The injured individuals were initially treated at a herbal center in Gbande but have since been transferred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for further medical care. One victim was shot in the hand, while the other suffered a gunshot wound that entered through her back and exited through her chest.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, although there are suspicions within the community that it may be linked to recent political developments. The appointment of a non-Dagomba individual as the District Chief Executive (DCE) has sparked discontent among the locals, who were expecting a native to be selected for the position. The announcement of nominees for Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) has stirred unrest in the area, leading to heightened tensions and fear among residents.

This tragic incident has compounded existing grievances and fears in the region, with the community reeling from the loss of life and the uncertainty surrounding the attack. Calls have been made to authorities to investigate the incident thoroughly and address the underlying issues to restore peace and stability in the area.

This is not the first time the region has experienced turmoil in recent months. A clash between hunters and farmers on February 20, 2025, resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries, prompting peace efforts from various groups in Zabzugu. However, the latest incident has reignited concerns of further conflict, underscoring the urgent need for lasting solutions to prevent future unrest.

Residents are urging the District Security Committee (DISEC) and the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) to intervene and work towards resolving the root causes of the ongoing tensions. The community is united in their plea for peace and justice in the wake of these distressing events.
