Senior Auditor Shot Dead in Kempton Park
Ekurhuleni municipality is reeling from the tragic loss of Mpho Mafole, the city’s group divisional head for corporate and forensic audits, who was fatally shot on Monday.
Details of the Shooting
The incident took place as Mafole was driving along the R23 in Kempton Park, where he was ambushed and killed by unknown assailants. Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi disclosed that Mafole was found in his car with gunshot wounds just before 6pm. The motive behind the attack remains unclear as police continue their investigation.
As of now, no suspects have been apprehended in connection with the shooting.

The City of Ekurhuleni’s head of communication expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident, acknowledging the distress it may cause among employees. The city has pledged to prioritize the safety and security of all its workers and is collaborating with relevant authorities to provide updates as the investigation progresses. Thoughts and condolences are extended to Mafole’s family, friends, and colleagues during this challenging period.
Mass Shooting Arrest in Cape Town
Separately, a 35-year-old suspect has been taken into custody in connection with a mass shooting in Gugulethu, Cape Town, where seven individuals lost their lives. The victims were reportedly socializing in the Kanana informal settlement when they were attacked in the early hours of Saturday.
Colonel Andrè Traut revealed that the Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Unit made significant strides in unraveling the circumstances surrounding the massacre, leading to the arrest of the suspect in Cape Town City Centre. While investigations continue and efforts to locate an additional suspect are ongoing, the arrested individual is being prepared for a court appearance at the Athlone Magistrate’s Court.
The public’s assistance is sought in locating Loyiso Matinisi, who is also wanted in connection with the Gugulethu case.
