A tragic incident unfolded in Akyem Anamase near Oda in the Eastern Region last Friday, as Chief Inspector Godwin Beniba, a groom, sadly passed away during his wedding ceremony.

Chief Inspector Beniba, who served as the Station Officer at the Anamase Police Station, collapsed shortly after arriving at the Anamase Hotel, the venue for the wedding. He had been eagerly awaiting the arrival of his bride, Florence Debrah, who was getting ready in one of the hotel rooms.

Eyewitnesses recounted that the groom appeared to be unwell as he entered the venue, complaining of dizziness before collapsing to the ground. Despite the swift efforts of guests to assist him, Chief Inspector Beniba was rushed to the Anamase Clinic, where he was tragically pronounced dead upon arrival by medical personnel.

The heartbreaking news of his sudden passing left the wedding guests in shock and devastation. Among the attendees were police officers from various regions such as Accra, Koforidua, Oda, Akyem Achiase, and Akyem Swedru, who had gathered to celebrate the joyous occasion. The atmosphere quickly turned somber, with many struggling to contain their emotions and fighting back tears.

The festivities planned for the wedding, including the abundance of food and drinks, were left untouched as the guests departed from the venue filled with sorrow. The family of the deceased, who had traveled from the Northern Region, made arrangements for Chief Inspector Beniba’s body to be transported to the Oda Government Hospital morgue for an autopsy and preservation.

The entire community of Akyem Anamase was enveloped in grief, with the usual festive spirit of the Christmas season overshadowed by mourning. The unexpected loss of Chief Inspector Godwin Beniba has left a profound impact on all those who knew him, highlighting the fragility of life and the unpredictable nature of fate. May he rest in peace.
