Two Arrested for Attempted Murder in Shooting of West High School Student
On Saturday, two individuals were taken into custody on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder following their alleged involvement in the shooting incident that left a West High School student injured on Tuesday. Jeison Urbina-Mancia, 18, and Gerardo Martinez Navarette, 21, were identified as the suspects in the case, with Denver police indicating that they had a prior connection to the victim. According to a post on social media by the Denver Police Department, the shooting is believed to have stemmed from a previous conflict.
The incident took place on the 800 block of Elati Street, prompting West High School to implement a secure-perimeter status for approximately an hour that afternoon. Although initial reports from Denver police stated that the victim was not a student, Denver Public Schools spokesperson Scott Pribble later confirmed that the 18-year-old victim is indeed a senior at West High School.
As of Saturday afternoon, both Urbina-Mancia and Martinez Navarette were being held at the downtown detention center in Denver, as indicated by jail records.
