Gideon Boako Defends Bawumia’s Future Leadership Potential
Member of Parliament for Tano North, Gideon Boako, has pushed back against critics who argue that former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia should not be considered for future leadership roles within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following his defeat in the 2024 presidential election.
Boako’s remarks were in response to factions within the NPP, particularly supporters of other potential flagbearer aspirants, who have suggested that Bawumia’s electoral loss disqualifies him from further consideration as a presidential candidate.
Resilience in Politics
During an interview on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, Boako, who also serves as a Technical Advisor and Spokesperson to Dr. Bawumia, emphasized that a single defeat does not mark the end of a politician’s career.
He noted, “The downfall of a man is never the end of his life. He is not the first to attempt the presidential seat and lose it. Others tried, they lost, they persevered with tenacity, and they were able to make it.”
Boako pointed to Ghana’s political history, highlighting leaders who overcame initial setbacks before eventually ascending to the presidency. He mentioned individuals like Kufuor, Akufo-Addo, Mills, and John Mahama, who faced multiple defeats before achieving success.
Looking to the Future
Boako conveyed Dr. Bawumia’s determination to continue pursuing his political aspirations, believing that with perseverance and faith, success is attainable. He expressed confidence in Bawumia’s ability to contribute positively to Ghana if given another opportunity.
He encouraged the NPP to unite behind Bawumia, underscoring the importance of persistence in the political arena and how it has historically led to the emergence of Ghana’s most accomplished leaders.
