A Call for Ghanaian Artistes to Rethink Performance Fees for International Events
A Ghanaian event organizer based in Germany is urging Ghanaian artistes to reconsider their performance fees when touring abroad.
Ofori One, a well-known event organizer, has raised concerns about the high performance fees demanded by Ghanaian artistes for events held outside Ghana. In a recent interview with ZionFelix, Ofori highlighted that these high fees are discouraging event organizers and making it challenging for them to cover their costs.
“If these artistes are unwilling to accept more reasonable fees that benefit both parties, they should consider organizing their own events,” Ofori suggested.
Ofori emphasized the importance of Ghanaian artistes adopting a more moderate approach to pricing their performances. He proposed that charging more modest amounts, such as €2000, would be mutually beneficial for both artistes and organizers. Lower fees, he argued, could result in more frequent bookings, increasing the exposure of the artistes and supporting the event industry abroad.
The discussion surrounding performance fees for Ghanaian artistes has been ongoing, fueled by the global rise in popularity of Afrobeats and Ghanaian music, which has led to a higher demand for live performances overseas. However, many promoters, particularly those based outside Ghana, have expressed concerns about balancing the costs of hosting events with the financial expectations of the artistes.
This ongoing dialogue underscores the importance of collaboration between artistes and promoters to promote the growth of Ghanaian music on a global scale, while ensuring fair compensation and affordability for event organizers.
