The collaboration between the Evangelism and School Outreach Ministries of the Obuasi Area of the Church of Pentecost and the Municipal Education Directorate resulted in a two-day guidance and counseling seminar for final year Junior High School students in Obuasi. The seminar, attended by about 3,000 students from 60 public and private schools, aimed to provide insights into career paths, the importance of making informed choices, and raise awareness about mental health.
Led by experienced professionals, the seminar was a crucial step in guiding the students towards making the right career decisions as they prepared for their Basic Education Certificate Examination. David Kankam Beditor, the Obuasi Area Head of the Church of Pentecost, emphasized the significance of proper guidance at this crucial stage in the students’ academic journey. He highlighted the church’s commitment to shaping the lives of children through its school outreach ministry, ensuring they become valuable members of society.
This initiative marked the second consecutive year that the Church of Pentecost organized such a seminar for BECE candidates in Obuasi. The Obuasi Municipal Director of Education, George Alfred Koomson, commended the church for its dedication to improving society through educational initiatives. He acknowledged the impact of the guidance and counseling seminar, attributing its success to collaborative efforts between the directorate and the church.
Mr. Koomson urged parents to actively participate in their children’s education and support them as they prepared for their final exams. He emphasized the importance of clarity and intentionality in navigating career paths, encouraging students to seek guidance and counseling to make informed decisions. The students, in turn, expressed their gratitude to the organizers for the insightful seminar and called for similar programs to be implemented in all schools.
As the students prepare to transition into Senior High School, Mr. Koomson advised parents to work closely with teachers to select suitable schools and courses for their children. He highlighted the significance of making informed choices in a world full of opportunities and urged students to approach their career paths with purpose and clarity. The guidance and counseling provided during the seminar were seen as essential in shaping the students’ future choices and fostering personal development.
Overall, the collaboration between the Church of Pentecost and the Municipal Education Directorate exemplifies a shared commitment to empowering students and guiding them towards a successful future. By providing valuable insights and support, the seminar served as a beacon of light for the students, equipping them with the tools to make informed decisions and pursue their academic and career goals.
