The National Sports Authority (NSA) boss has revealed plans to assess the readiness of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for the return of Ghana Premier League matches. In a recent interview on Channel One TV, the NSA boss mentioned that officials will soon visit the facility to evaluate its condition.
According to the NSA boss, the Baba Yara Stadium has undergone re-turfing and the grass is now up to standard. He emphasized the importance of continuous maintenance and monitoring of the stadium to ensure it meets the required standards for hosting matches. Once the assessment is complete and the stadium is deemed ready, Kumasi Asante Kotoko will be allowed to return to play their home games at the venue.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) had previously banned the Baba Yara Stadium from hosting Category C games due to the poor condition of the playing field. This decision came after the Black Stars suffered a defeat against Angola in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers held at the stadium. The loss, which marked the first time Ghana had been defeated at Baba Yara in 24 years, raised concerns about the state of the pitch.
As a result of the CAF ban and public outcry over the poor pitch quality, the national team has since been playing their games at the Accra Sports Stadium. Additionally, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, who usually play their home matches at Baba Yara, have been forced to relocate to the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium.
Efforts are now being made to improve the condition of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to meet the required standards for hosting matches. With ongoing maintenance and assessment, the stadium is expected to be ready for the return of Ghana Premier League matches in the near future.
