The race for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidacy has reached a crucial stage, with five contenders officially submitting their nominations to compete for the flagbearer position.

In a statement released by the party’s Presidential Elections Committee on Thursday, August 28, 2025, it was confirmed that all five aspirants who obtained nomination forms have successfully filed them. The candidates vying for the NPP’s top spot include former presidential staffer Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Assin Central MP Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong, Minister for Food and Agriculture Hon. Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Vice President H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and Minister for Education Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.

This development marks the beginning of a highly anticipated internal competition that will determine the party’s flagbearer for the upcoming 2026 general elections.

William Yamoah, Secretary of the Presidential Elections Committee, has reassured all stakeholders that the nomination process will be conducted with transparency and fairness. “The Committee is dedicated to ensuring a transparent, credible, and fair process, in accordance with the Party’s Constitution and Regulations, to uphold the integrity of the selection process,” the statement emphasized.

The party’s primary election is set to take place on Saturday, January 31, 2026, with NPP members closely observing as the party gears up for one of its most competitive leadership contests in recent memory.

Stay tuned for updates on the NPP presidential race as the candidates vie for the opportunity to lead the party into the 2026 general elections.
