Nasarawa United Expelled from Lafia Township Stadium and Fined N6 Million
After a series of security breaches and crowd disturbances, Nasarawa United has faced severe consequences from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). The team has been expelled from their home ground at Lafia Township Stadium and slapped with a hefty fine of N6 million.
The disciplinary action was taken following the recent Matchday 33 clash between Nasarawa United and Plateau United. Reports confirmed that Vincent Temitope of Plateau United was assaulted, and there were attempts to intimidate match officials during the game.
Nasarawa United was found guilty of four violations of the NPFL’s Framework and Rules, specifically breaching Rules B13.52, B13.22, C9, and C11.
The breakdown of the fines imposed on Nasarawa United includes N1 million for violating Rule C9, another N1 million for failing to control their supporters, an additional N1 million to cover the medical expenses of the victim, and a hefty N3 million for their repeated infractions.
As part of the punishment, Nasarawa United will be forced to play their remaining home fixtures at Pantami Stadium in Gombe. This decision comes as a consequence of the persistent security issues at Lafia Township Stadium.
In a stern message to the club, NPFL’s Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi, reiterated the league’s zero-tolerance policy towards violence and misconduct. Nasarawa United has been given 48 hours to respond in writing, either accepting the sanctions or choosing to appeal and face a disciplinary hearing.
