Renowned Grammy Award-winning singer Nomcebo Zikode has teamed up with Kenya’s Sofiya Nzau and Nigeria’s Fireboy DML to create a sensational new single called ‘Meta’. This song introduces the innovative 3-Step genre, spearheaded by South African artists like Thakzin, which features a bass-driven, three-count rhythm that breaks away from traditional four-count beats.
By blending elements from Amapiano, Afro-tech, and broken beat, ‘Meta’ offers listeners a unique and immersive musical experience that showcases the diversity and creativity of African music.
In an interview with The Citizen, Nomcebo revealed that the idea for the collaboration came about when she met Fireboy DML in Hollywood. The collaboration expanded when Sofiya Nzau visited South Africa, leading to the creation of ‘Meta’.

The trio recently released the music video for ‘Meta’, set against the vibrant backdrop of Soweto. Directed by the acclaimed South African duo Bongani Tshabalala and Vuyo Mpantsha, the video features captivating choreography by Zoyi Muendane and Eugene Baloyi. The music video has already gained over half a million views on YouTube, garnering praise for its visual appeal and artistic direction.
