A Shocking Revelation in the Trial of Diego Maradona’s Healthcare Professionals
During the ongoing trial of seven healthcare professionals accused of homicide in the death of football icon, Diego Maradona, a police officer testified in court on Tuesday. Officer Lucas Farias revealed that he saw no medical equipment in the room where Maradona was receiving post-operative care.
The prosecution has characterized the handling of Maradona’s final days as a “horror theatre,” highlighting the alleged negligence in his care.
Officer Farias told the court, “I didn’t see medical items in the room. I didn’t see serums that I think should be part of home hospitalization,” referring to the absence of necessary medical equipment such as an intravenous drip.
Diego Maradona passed away on November 25, 2020, at the age of 60, while recovering at home after brain surgery for a blood clot. The official cause of death was determined to be heart failure and acute pulmonary edema.
Officer Farias also described the distressing state in which he found Maradona’s body, noting, “What first caught my attention about Diego Maradona was his face-up position with an abdomen so swollen it seemed about to explode.”
The seven accused medical professionals, including a neurosurgeon, psychiatrist, and nurse, are facing charges of “homicide with possible intent” for allegedly disregarding life-threatening risks in their care. If convicted, they could receive sentences ranging from eight to 25 years in prison.
The trial, which commenced last week in Buenos Aires, is anticipated to continue until July, with nearly 120 witnesses scheduled to testify.
