MDaaS, a Nigerian diagnostic healthtech startup, has recently expanded its operations into Cameroon, marking its entry into Francophone Africa. The move is part of MDaaS’s strategic plan to diversify its market presence beyond Nigeria and tap into the growing demand for medical services in Cameroon. With Cameroon’s bilingual advantage and a more stable currency, MDaaS aims to boost revenue and provide quality healthcare solutions in the region.
Founded in 2017 by Oluwasoga Oni and Opeyemi Ologun, MDaaS has already made a significant impact in Nigeria by serving over 16,000 patients through its 16 diagnostic clinics and collaborating with partners and affiliates across 26 states. The startup has built a strong reputation for providing efficient and reliable diagnostic services, with many Nigerian patients opting to book tests upfront.
During a tour of diagnostic centers in Cameroon, MDaaS identified a gap in fast and efficient diagnostic services. Many centers in Cameroon still experience long wait times for lab tests, a challenge that MDaaS has successfully addressed in Nigeria. Patients in Nigeria can receive multiple tests and same-day results in a single visit, a service that MDaaS plans to introduce to Cameroonian patients as well.
In addition to diagnostic services, MDaaS operates Sinetel, a B2B platform focused on preventive healthcare. Earlier this year, MDaaS secured $3 million in pre-series A funding to expand its operations within Nigeria, and now the startup is taking the next step by entering the Cameroonian market.
Meanwhile, two of Nigeria’s youngest founders, Nathan Nwachukwu and Maxwell Maduka, are making waves in the startup scene with their latest venture, Terahaptix. Both founders have a track record of resilience and success in the startup world. Nathan, who started his entrepreneurial journey at the age of 15, built Klas, an Edtech platform that now serves around 700,000 schools and has received $1.3 million in venture capital funding. Maxwell, a former lead drone engineer for the Nigerian Navy, founded Special Nova, a micro-drone company that was later acquired by Nord Motors. Together, they are pioneering new approaches to hardware and drone technology in Africa through Terahaptix.
In other news, MultiChoice is introducing new features to its DStv Stream platform, allowing users to rewind live TV channels by up to 24 hours on selected channels like SuperSport, M-Net, Mzansi Magic, and KykNet. The new “Cloud PVR” feature enables users to save live shows for later viewing, with recordings remaining available for 30 days. While these updates aim to provide subscribers with more flexibility and control over their viewing experience, MultiChoice is facing financial challenges due to factors like foreign exchange fluctuations, inflation, and changing subscriber habits. The company plans to reduce costs by $113 million and implement inflation-based price adjustments to manage these pressures.
