Asona FM Political Debate Turns Heated Over Akufo-Addo Bathing Controversy
A fiery exchange occurred during a political discussion on Asona FM when former Ashanti Regional NDC administrator, Wallas Ababio, was questioned about a controversial statement regarding former President Nana Akufo-Addo.
Host Agya Yaw Obeng Preko raised the issue of whether the opposition party needed to apologize for alleging that Akufo-Addo was “bathing in the skies” on a presidential jet. Ababio vehemently defended the NDC, stating they should not apologize for a statement they did not make. He shifted blame to former Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul, claiming the comment originated from within Akufo-Addo’s own government.
Ababio cited Nitiwul’s remarks to parliament about the lack of space on the presidential jet, which supposedly led to the decision to hire a separate aircraft for official travel. He highlighted the exorbitant cost of this choice, costing Ghana $17,000 per hour.
In Ababio’s view, the issue exemplified the extravagant spending of the previous administration. He argued that demanding an apology from the NDC was unjustified when the statement came from a minister of the New Patriotic Party.
