The Legal Troubles of Musa Khawula: Attempted Murder Charges and More

Musa Khawula, a 32-year-old blogger, found himself in hot water once again as his case of attempted murder, reckless driving, and failing to render assistance and/or report an accident to the police was postponed to February. Khawula appeared at the Fochville Magistrates’ Court in the West Rand for a brief hearing on Friday.

The Fochville Incident

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the incident in question took place on February 20, 2021, around 6:00 PM near Mponeng Mine. The complainant and his wife encountered Khawula standing naked on his lower body next to a parked Volkswagen Polo on a narrow road. After a verbal exchange, Khawula allegedly drove away but later bumped the complainant with his car before fleeing the scene, leaving the injured individual behind.

Khawula’s Re-Arrest

A member of the Community Policing Forum discovered the injured complainant and alerted the authorities. Khawula was subsequently arrested at a nearby tavern and appeared in court, where he was initially granted bail. However, after missing court appearances, a warrant was issued for his arrest, and his bail was forfeited to the state. Khawula was re-arrested and now faces additional charges of attempted murder, reckless driving, and failing to render assistance.

Khawula’s Legal Troubles

Aside from the Fochville incident, Khawula also faces charges of criminal injuria, contravention of the Cyber Crimes Act, and hate speech related to derogatory statements made on social media towards entrepreneur Zee Nxumalo. His lawyer requested a postponement at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court due to unpreparedness. The media was granted permission to film the court proceedings, with the prosecutor emphasizing the severity of the charges Khawula is facing.
