The MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) academies in Zambia, Nigeria, and Kenya recently celebrated the graduation of another group of film and TV professionals. This new cohort of young graduates joins a growing network of MTF alumni, making a significant impact on the creative sector across Africa.
MultiChoice Africa CEO Fhulu Badugela commended the graduates for successfully completing their year-long courses and highlighted the positive influence that MTF is having on the industry. She mentioned that MTF graduates are consistently winning awards at film festivals and are in high demand in leading productions, showcasing the quality of education provided by the academies.
The MTF Programme offers a fully funded 12-month immersion experience that combines theory and hands-on training in all aspects of film production. Each year, 60 students from across Africa are selected to learn from top industry experts, shaping the future of African cinema.
MTF operates through three platforms: the MTF Portal, MTF Industry Masterclasses, and the MTF Academies. The program has formed educational partnerships with leading local universities such as Pan-Atlantic University in Lagos, Kenyatta University in Nairobi, and the University of Zambia in Lusaka.
Additionally, the MTF academies have established relationships with international partners like the New York Film Academy (NYFA) and Zee Entertainment Africa, providing training, course content, and internship opportunities to students. The collaboration between MTF and these partners promotes cross-cultural collaboration and supports young filmmakers in honing their skills.
This year, MTF students and alumni have made significant contributions to the industry, with notable achievements such as producing impactful documentaries, winning awards at film festivals, and securing opportunities in leading productions. These success stories reflect the dedication and talent of MTF graduates in shaping the African film landscape.
As MTF continues to empower aspiring filmmakers and industry professionals, CEO Fhulu Badugela emphasized that the program is not just about providing skilled workers but nurturing creative talents who will define the future of African cinema. With the support of educational and industry partnerships, MTF alumni are well-equipped to lead the way in shaping the direction of the African film industry for years to come.
