Mike Tyson Set to Return to the Boxing Ring Against YouTuber Jake Paul
Legendary boxer Mike Tyson, now 58 years old, is making a comeback to the boxing ring after nearly four decades since his professional debut and almost 20 years since his initial retirement. The former heavyweight champion will be facing 27-year-old YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in an eight-round fight scheduled to take place at AT&T Stadium in Texas. The highly anticipated bout, backed by Netflix, was originally set for July but had to be postponed due to a health scare when Tyson suffered a bleeding ulcer mid-flight.
Despite the excitement surrounding the event, there has been significant backlash against the fight, with some prominent boxing figures criticizing it as a dangerous spectacle. British boxing promoter Eddie Hearn expressed concerns about Tyson’s age and well-being, stating, “If anyone thinks that Mike Tyson should be in a ring at this age, you either have absolutely no emotional feelings toward the man, or you’re an idiot. It shouldn’t be happening.” Veteran promoter Frank Warren also labeled the fight as ridiculous, likening the public’s interest to gawking at a car crash.
In response to the criticism, Tyson, who is reportedly earning $20 million for the fight, dismissed concerns and stated, “The people who say that just wish they were here.” On the other hand, Jake Paul, with a record of 10 wins in 11 fights, expressed confidence in his abilities leading up to the event, claiming, “I feel sharp and explosive,” and predicting an easy win against Tyson.
