The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is making history by selecting two young girls, aged 8 and 11, to host the upcoming 2024/25 Women’s Football Festival. The event is scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra.
Nana Ama Amponsah, an 11-year-old Stage 5 pupil from Seed of Faith School in Accra, and Michelle Anyankwabea Ampofo, an 8-year-old student at Unique Child Academy in Haatso, will be the hosts for the festival. Nana Ama will lead the pre-match discussions and post-match press conference for the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League final between Ampem Darkoa Ladies and Police Ladies. She is known for her public speaking skills and has previously shared the stage with prominent figures such as former President Nana Akufo-Addo, Samira Bawumia, and musicians like Reggie Rockstone and Efya.
Michelle will join Nana Ama in guiding viewers through the day’s activities, adding a youthful perspective to the event. This decision reflects the GFA’s commitment to involving more girls in all aspects of football, from playing to hosting, coaching, officiating, and journalism. Through its Women’s Football Strategy, the GFA aims to increase participation and inspire young girls to pursue their dreams in the sport.
The Women’s Football Festival promises a day filled with fun and football, starting with the Women’s FA Cup final at 3:00 p.m. between Jonina Ladies and Faith Ladies, followed by the Women’s Premier League final at 6:00 p.m. Young girls from schools across the country will have the opportunity to play, interact with football legends, and deepen their knowledge of the sport.
With Nana Ama and Michelle taking on central roles at the festival, this year’s event is expected to be particularly exciting and memorable. The GFA’s initiative to empower young girls in football is a step towards creating a more inclusive and diverse football community.
