Martha Opoku Agyemang, the dedicated founder of the Kids and Single Parents Care (KSPC) Foundation, has been honored as the MTN Hero of Change for the Health Category at the 7th Season of MTN Heroes of Change awards. The prestigious ceremony took place on Friday, 30 May, at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra, where Martha was awarded GH¢60,000 to further her impactful work with children living with cerebral palsy and other special needs.

In a heartfelt acceptance speech, Martha expressed her gratitude to her supporters, fans, and MTN Ghana for providing a platform to raise awareness and continue her mission of helping children with cerebral palsy. Her unwavering dedication and commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable children have not gone unnoticed, and this recognition is a testament to her remarkable efforts.

At 56 years old, Martha stands as a beacon of strength and compassion in Kumasi. Drawing from her personal experience as a mother of a child with cerebral palsy, she established the KSPC Foundation in 2002 to offer support to families facing similar challenges. What began as advocacy on radio, particularly through Adom FM, has evolved into a comprehensive community support organization that provides therapy, rehabilitation, and a makeshift daycare center.

Currently, the foundation supports 32 children, with 14 residing at the facility and 18 receiving outpatient care. Additionally, four street children have been placed under Martha’s care by the Department of Social Welfare. Beyond medical and emotional support, Martha’s services enable parents, especially single mothers, to work and regain financial stability.

Martha’s advocacy extends beyond caregiving as she actively promotes inclusion and disability rights through media engagements, workshops, and policy advocacy. Despite limited funding, much of which she provides from her own resources, Martha continues to serve with unwavering dedication and passion.

Supporters describe Martha as a “strong, selfless woman” who has inspired many to be more compassionate and giving. Her efforts not only showcase acts of kindness but also contribute to building a more inclusive society for children with special needs.

The MTN Heroes of Change initiative, spearheaded by the MTN Ghana Foundation, celebrates individuals who are making a lasting impact in the areas of Health, Education, and Economic Empowerment. By shining a spotlight on everyday heroes like Martha, the initiative aims to highlight the transformative power of service and the positive difference it makes in the lives of individuals and communities.

Martha Opoku Agyemang’s recognition as the MTN Hero of Change for the Health Category is a well-deserved honor that recognizes her tireless efforts and unwavering commitment to improving the lives of children with special needs. Her story serves as a reminder of the profound impact that one individual can have in creating positive change and building a more inclusive and compassionate society.
