Seam bowler Dane Paterson delivered a standout performance, achieving career-best figures of 5/61, as the Proteas took on Pakistan in the first Test at Centurion. Despite a shaky start for the hosts, opening batter Aiden Markram provided stability, guiding South Africa to 82/3 by the end of the day’s play.

In the Pakistan innings, after losing the toss and being put in to bat, the tourists struggled against the formidable South African seam attack. Paterson and debutant Corbin Bosch wreaked havoc, dismissing Pakistan for 211 runs just after the tea break. Kamran Ghulam top-scored with 54 runs, supported by Mohammad Rizwan with 28 runs.

Paterson’s impressive bowling display earned him his second five-wicket haul in Test cricket, while Bosch made a strong debut with figures of 4/63. The Proteas opted to go without a specialist spinner, relying solely on their pace bowlers who delivered with great success.

Looking ahead, Paterson expressed his satisfaction with his performance, emphasizing the importance of contributing to the team’s success. He commended Bosch for his stellar debut and acknowledged the significance of putting the team in a commanding position.

With the ICC Test Championship final at stake, Paterson and the Proteas aimed to seize momentum in the upcoming days of the match. As they prepared to bat in their first innings, the team hoped to set a solid foundation and take control of the game against Pakistan.

The intense battle between the Proteas and Pakistan promised thrilling cricket action as both teams vied for supremacy in the Test match. With Paterson’s stellar bowling and Markram’s steady batting, South Africa sought to capitalize on their strengths and secure a crucial victory in the series.
