Man Shot and Killed Outside UIC-Halsted Blue Line Station

CHICAGO — At least one man is in custody after a man was shot and killed outside the UIC-Halsted Blue Line station on Saturday evening.

The victim, a 61-year-old male, was found on the pedestrian bridge above the station in the 400 block of South Peoria around 6:04 p.m. He suffered a gunshot wound to his head and was pronounced dead at 6:37 p.m.

University of Illinois-Chicago Police Department officers detained a man nearby, and a gun was recovered from the individual’s bag, according to CPD radio traffic. Surveillance video showed two individuals who appeared to be CTA employees or contractors interacting with the gunman before the shooting. Investigators were working to confirm if the victim had any association with the CTA.

Authorities found more than a dozen shell casings near the victim’s body, indicating a violent altercation.
