Devin White, a 36-year-old man with a history of violent offenses, found himself in hot water once again after a disturbing incident at the 555 West Harrison courthouse in Chicago. During a routine hearing for a child endangerment case, White allegedly confronted the prosecutor handling his domestic violence case in a courtroom elevator.

According to court filings, White brandished a belt and directed threatening language towards the prosecutor, calling her a derogatory term and asking if she wanted to fight. The situation escalated as he followed her off the elevator until she sought refuge in a safe room and called for assistance. Despite her efforts to escape, White continued to shout at her, causing further distress.

As a result of this alarming behavior, White was charged with felony counts of threatening a public official and intimidation. Judge Luciano Panici, Jr. made the decision to keep him in jail, citing his violent criminal history and blatant disregard for authority. Panici emphasized that White posed a significant threat to prosecutors and law enforcement.

This recent incident is not the first time White has had a run-in with the justice system. In July 2020, CWBChicago reported on a robbery and kidnapping case involving White in the Lakeview neighborhood. His pattern of violent behavior and lack of respect for the law have raised concerns among legal authorities.

The actions of individuals like Devin White highlight the importance of taking threats against public officials seriously. The safety and well-being of those working within the legal system should not be compromised by individuals who resort to intimidation and violence. It is crucial for the justice system to hold accountable those who pose a threat to public safety.

CWBChicago, a local news outlet dedicated to providing detailed public safety reporting, continues to shed light on incidents like these to ensure that the community is informed and aware of potential risks. Their commitment to accurate and thorough coverage serves as a valuable resource for residents of Chicago and surrounding neighborhoods.

The case of Devin White serves as a sobering reminder of the challenges faced by law enforcement and legal professionals in dealing with individuals who exhibit violent behavior. By addressing these issues proactively and holding individuals accountable for their actions, the justice system can work towards creating a safer and more secure community for all.
