Man Arrested for Violating Graves of Father and Grandfather
A shocking incident took place in Mpumalanga, where a 29-year-old man was arrested for allegedly digging up the graves of his father and grandfather. The incident occurred at a cemetery in Swalala in Masoyi near White River, where the suspect disturbed the resting places of his relatives.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdhluli revealed that the man was reported to have dug up the two adjacent graves on Tuesday afternoon. The graves, belonging to his father and grandfather who were buried in 2010, were found to have been disturbed when a woman reported the incident to the authorities.
Upon arriving at the cemetery, members of the Visible Policing Unit confirmed that the graves had indeed been tampered with. The suspect was swiftly located at his residence in the RDP houses in Swalala, where he was found asleep with bones believed to be from the graves positioned next to him.
The suspect was immediately arrested and charged with violating the graves. The bones were confiscated as part of an ongoing investigation conducted by the South African Police Service (Saps). The suspect is expected to appear in court on Wednesday as the investigation continues.

In a separate incident in Limpopo, police in Mokwakwaila launched an investigation into the violation of a grave and theft of a corpse in February. The body of the deceased was dug out of the grave and stolen by unknown suspect(s) at Senakwe Section in Mokwakwaila policing area.
One of the family members discovered the grave had been dug open and the corpse stolen while preparing for the unveiling of the tombstone. The police found an open coffin with no corpse inside, indicating that the suspect(s) had accessed the graveyard by cutting the side fence and digging a hole next to the grave to steal the corpse.
