A 19-year-old man, Marcell Hale, has been charged with committing eight armed robberies within an hour while he was on electronic monitoring for six other felonies, including four more robberies.
Hale, along with at least one accomplice, used firearms to rob men ranging in age from 23 to 74 last Monday, November 11, according to prosecutors. Shockingly, he carried out these crimes while wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet for juvenile court supervision in six cases, including four armed robberies.
Hale and his accomplice targeted their victims one after another, taking phones and wallets in the process. The robberies took place at various locations including the 4000 block of West Belmont, the 2300 block of North Karlov, the 1900 block of North Kilbourn, the 1600 block of North Tripp where men aged 28, 49, and 57 were robbed, the 4400 block of West Cortland, and the 1600 block of North Kedzie.
Chicago police officers were able to identify Hale through photo lineups and electronic means as stated in his arrest report. Judge William Fahy granted the state’s detention petition, and Hale now faces eight counts of armed robbery.
