A Father-of-Three Faces Charges Following Liverpool Parade Crash
Paul Doyle, a 53-year-old father-of-three and former Royal Marine, has been charged in connection with the Liverpool parade crash that left 79 people injured. The incident occurred during Liverpool’s Premier League victory celebration, where a car ploughed into fans on Water Street.
Doyle, who resides on Burghill Road in West Derby, was arrested following the crash and is set to appear at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court on Friday morning.
Among the injured individuals was a nine-year-old, highlighting the severity of the situation. Doyle, described as a local businessman, is facing multiple charges including causing and attempting to cause unlawful and malicious grievous bodily harm with intent, dangerous driving, and illegal and malicious wounding with intent.
Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims of Merseyside Police provided an update on the situation, stating that seven individuals remain hospitalized as a result of the crash. The community has been left in shock and disbelief, with neighbors expressing their surprise at the turn of events on Burghill Road.
Sims mentioned that detectives are meticulously reviewing a vast amount of CCTV and mobile phone footage, along with witness statements, to piece together the events leading up to the incident. Sarah Hammond, Chief Crown Prosecutor for the Mersey-Cheshire region, emphasized the importance of ensuring justice for all victims involved.
Doyle faces a total of seven charges, categorized into four groups based on the nature of the offenses. These charges include wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, causing unlawful and malicious GBH with intent, attempted unlawful and malicious GBH with intent, and dangerous driving.
Police confirmed that the age range of the injured individuals spanned from nine to 78 years old, underscoring the diverse impact of the incident. Assistant Chief Constable Sims assured the public that the investigative team is diligently working to provide answers and further information as the case progresses.
