Tunde Baiyewu, former member of the multi-platinum-selling Lighthouse Family, has recently released his first solo project since leaving the band. His EP, titled “Tunde & The Troubadours EP 1,” features collaborations with top South African artists, including Zonke, Vusi Mahlasela, PJ Powers, and the Drakensberg Boys Choir.

The idea to work with South African artists came about during a conversation with a friend, as Baiyewu shared, “South Africa actually chose me! I grew up in Lagos, Nigeria, listening to iconic artists like Sunny Ade, Fela Kuti, Hugh Masekela, and Miriam Makeba. When a friend in Cape Town suggested doing a duet with a South African artist, I knew it was the perfect opportunity.”

The EP kicks off with a rendition of Bill Withers’ “Lean On Me,” featuring the talented Zonke. Baiyewu expressed his appreciation for Zonke’s contribution, adding depth to the song. The second track, “I Saw the Light,” sees Baiyewu collaborating with South African legend Vusi Mahlasela. Lastly, on the song “I Need You,” Baiyewu is joined by PJ Powers and the Drakensberg Boys Choir, capturing the emotions of a past relationship.

Looking ahead, Baiyewu has plans to bring his music show, “Tunde & The Troubadours EP 1,” to South Africa in the near future. He recently performed at the Jazz Festival in Cape Town and was overwhelmed by the positive reception. Baiyewu emphasized the unique experience of performing live and the warm feedback received from the audience.

Fans can expect an unforgettable live show experience when Baiyewu takes the stage in South Africa. Stay tuned for updates on his upcoming performances and be sure not to miss out on the opportunity to witness his musical talent firsthand.
