Republican Representative Proposes Amendment to Allow Trump a Third Term
A Republican representative in the House has introduced a resolution to modify the U.S. Constitution and allow President Donald Trump, as well as future presidents, to be eligible for a third term in office.
Rep. Andy Ogles of Tennessee believes that Trump is the only modern figure capable of reversing the decline of the nation and restoring America to greatness. He argues that Trump deserves the time needed to achieve this goal, which is why he has proposed extending the current limit of two elected terms.
“It is imperative that we provide President Trump with every resource necessary to correct the disastrous course set by the Biden administration,” Ogles stated. He emphasized Trump’s dedication to restoring the republic and saving the country, urging legislators and states to support him in this endeavor.
Ogles introduced the resolution just three days after Trump began his second, non-consecutive term, making him only the second U.S. president in history to do so.
The resolution comes in response to a House resolution presented by Rep. Dan Goldman, a Democrat from New York, who argued that the twenty-second Amendment limits presidents to two terms in total, including Trump.
Franklin D. Roosevelt remains the only president to have served more than two terms.
The proposed amendment to the 22nd Amendment would allow a president to serve three terms, with only two being consecutive. This could potentially allow Trump to run for a third term in 2028 if Ogles’s amendment is approved.
