The Office of Special Adviser on Climate Change and Circular Economy in Lagos State has made a significant move towards advancing sustainable development by partnering with the EU-Africa Chamber of Commerce during COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan. This partnership aims to boost green financing, facilitate technology transfer, and promote green economic growth in Lagos State, in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision to position Lagos as a sustainable mega city.
The partnership focuses on collaborating on projects aligned with UNFCCC Articles 6.2 and 6.4ER goals, promoting carbon offset objectives, and driving Economic, Environmental, Social, and Governance (EESG) compliance and circular economy principles. The aim is to develop bankable sustainable projects that position Lagos State as a global leader in climate action.
The Office of Special Adviser on Climate Change and Circular Economy, through the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, plans to formalize the partnership with the EU-Africa Chamber of Commerce through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This MoU will outline cooperation on green financing, technology transfer, and sustainable development, ensuring that environmental sustainability is integrated into the state’s financial planning across all ministries.

The partnership with the EU-Africa Chamber of Commerce is expected to enhance access to climate finance, promote Lagos State’s Article 6-compliant projects, and attract funding for clean technology and sustainable infrastructure development. This partnership builds on existing collaborations with Access Bank and Carbonivity to accelerate climate investment initiatives for Lagos State.
