Kwesi Appiah, the former Black Stars coach, recently celebrated Sudan’s qualification for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in a unique way. In a video that surfaced online, members of the technical team, including his assistant Ignatius Osei-Fosu and some players, showcased their dancing skills. Appiah, who is 64 years old, was a bit hesitant to join in at first, holding some fruits in his hands, but eventually, his team managed to get him to participate.

Sudan secured their spot in the AFCON after holding Angola to a goalless draw in the final qualifying round. The Falcons of Jediane needed only one point from their last two matches, but a 4-0 defeat to Niger put them on edge. However, Appiah and his backroom staff knew exactly how to guide the team to qualification.

Despite playing all their games away from home due to security concerns in the region, Sudan finished second in Group F with eight points in six matches. They also lead their 2026 World Cup qualifiers group with 10 points in five games, ahead of Senegal with eight points. Sudan will join Angola in the 24-team tournament to be held in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.

This achievement is commendable, considering the challenges Sudan faced throughout their qualifying campaign. Appiah’s leadership and tactical acumen played a significant role in guiding the team to success. The Sudanese football fans are now looking forward to seeing their team compete against the best in Africa at the upcoming AFCON tournament.
