Moscow: The Kremlin revealed on Friday that Russian President Vladimir Putin had reached out to US President Donald Trump regarding a ceasefire proposal in Ukraine through Trump’s special envoy. The discussions have sparked cautious optimism as both sides work towards a peaceful resolution.

Putin met with Steve Witkoff, Trump’s envoy, in Moscow to discuss the US proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine, a move that has been accepted by Kyiv. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov informed the media about the talks, stating that Putin had conveyed messages to Trump through Witkoff and received insights into the US stance on the situation in Ukraine.

“There are reasons for cautious optimism. President Putin recently expressed his support for President Trump’s position on the matter. However, there are still questions that need to be addressed collaboratively,” Peskov remarked. The dialogue between the two leaders is seen as a positive step towards resolving the conflict.

Peskov mentioned that Russia and the US are in the process of scheduling a phone call between Putin and Trump following Witkoff’s briefing to the US President. The communication between the two nations signals a willingness to engage in diplomatic discussions to bring about a ceasefire in Ukraine.
