Union Berlin Defender Derrick Arthur Köhn Earns Black Stars Call-Up
Union Berlin defender Derrick Arthur Köhn has earned his maiden Black Stars call-up for Ghana’s crucial World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Mali next month.
Coach Otto Addo has announced a 24-man squad for the September fixtures, combining seasoned players like captain Thomas Partey and emerging talents. Among the new faces is Köhn, who impressed during his loan spell at Werder Bremen with stellar performances in the Bundesliga before joining Union Berlin.
Also making a return to the squad is winger Kamaldeen Sulemana, who has been in fine form since moving to Atalanta from Southampton. Elisha Owusu, who plays in France, is back after recovering from a lengthy injury.
Youngster Caleb Yirenkyi, known for his standout displays at FC Nordsjaelland, has been rewarded with a call-up. Tariq Lamptey, Joseph Anang, and Christopher Bonsu Baah are also included in the squad for the upcoming matches.
Ghana currently leads Group I with an impressive record of five victories and one defeat in their World Cup qualifying campaign. The team will be looking to maintain their position at the top as they head into the final phase of qualifiers.
The Black Stars will kick off their preparations with a training camp in Accra before facing Chad in N’djamena on September 4. They will then return home to play Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 8.
Coach Addo’s selection reflects a blend of experience and youth, highlighting the team’s strategy for the crucial World Cup qualifiers and beyond.
