Kesha, the iconic singer, is offering some comfort to fans who are concerned about the potential ban of TikTok in the United States. In a recent Instagram video, Kesha can be seen wearing a black hoodie and closing her eyes as her 2010 hit song “Tik Tok” plays in the background. She captioned the video with a reassuring message, stating, “TikTok may be temporary, but TiK ToK is forever,” accompanied by a peace sign and black heart emoji.

“Tik Tok” was a massive hit when it was released, spending nine weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Kesha even performed the song in Oakland, California in 2023, where she made a notable change to the opening line of the song. Instead of singing, “Wake up in the morning feeling like P. Diddy,” she switched it to “Wake up in the morning feeling just like me.” This alteration came after singer Cassie filed a lawsuit against Diddy in November 2023, accusing him of sexual assault and abuse.

Since Cassie’s lawsuit, other individuals have come forward with allegations against Diddy. Despite the allegations, Diddy has denied them and is currently incarcerated at the Metropolitan Detention Center in New York. Kesha further solidified her stance by changing the opening line of “Tik Tok” during her 2024 Coachella set to, “Wake up in the mornin’ like f—k P. Diddy.” She confirmed in May of the same year that this lyric change was permanent and encouraged fans to learn the new version for her upcoming shows.

In response to the potential ban of TikTok in the US, the Supreme Court has upheld the government’s proposed ban on the social media app. The app’s owners, ByteDance, have pledged to make TikTok inaccessible to users in the US starting at midnight on Sunday, January 19. This decision comes after concerns were raised about espionage by China through ByteDance. The company has announced plans to remove TikTok from smartphone app stores and will cease operations unless assurances are provided by the US government.

The ban of TikTok will have a significant impact on content creators, influencers, and individuals who earn income through the platform. Those who participate in the TikTok Creator Fund, collaborate with brands, and sell merchandise on the app will be affected by the ban. Despite the uncertainty surrounding TikTok’s future, Kesha’s timeless hit “Tik Tok” serves as a reminder that some things will always endure, even in the face of change.
