Former Vice President and 2024 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, recently took a swipe at the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) for failing to alleviate the cost of living for Ghanaians. Speaking at an event in London for NPP members in the diaspora, Dr Bawumia criticized the NDC for relying on propaganda to secure victory in the 2024 elections, only to fall short on their promises once in power.
Dr Bawumia pointed out that essential food items’ prices continue to rise, contradicting the NDC’s campaign pledges to reduce the cost of living. He highlighted the fact that despite the NDC’s promises to lower prices, the cost of items like kenkey and cement has actually increased in Ghana. He emphasized that within just a few months, it has become evident that the NDC’s promises were baseless and misleading.
Looking ahead to the 2028 general election, Dr Bawumia expressed confidence that the NPP will emerge victorious. He cited the NDC’s plan to field a new candidate as an advantage for the NPP, asserting that the party stands a better chance against their opponents.
In his closing remarks, Dr Bawumia called for unity among NPP members and urged them to work together towards securing victory in the upcoming election. He emphasized the importance of collective effort and solidarity within the party to achieve their goals.
The NPP’s focus on addressing the rising cost of living and holding the NDC accountable for their unfulfilled promises underscores their commitment to serving the Ghanaian people. As the political landscape evolves leading up to the 2028 election, Dr Bawumia’s leadership and vision for the country will continue to shape the NPP’s campaign strategy and priorities.
