Harry Kane etched his name into the history books as Bayern Munich secured their spot in the Champions League quarter-finals with a convincing win over Bayer Leverkusen.

The talismanic striker’s goal in the 52nd minute marked his 10th in Europe this season, surpassing all previous English players in a single campaign in the competition’s illustrious history.

Heading into the second-leg clash with a 3-0 advantage from the first leg, Bayern once again displayed their dominance against Leverkusen.

The first half saw Vincent Kompany’s side create the better chances, with Michael Olise and Kingsley Coman going close with their efforts narrowly missing the target.

With Leverkusen needing to push forward after the break, it was Bayern who effectively sealed the tie as Patrik Schick’s clearance attempt from a Joshua Kimmich free-kick fell kindly to Kane, who made no mistake from close range.

Missing their star player Florian Wirtz due to an ankle injury, Leverkusen struggled to create opportunities in the final third.

Xabi Alonso’s men aimed to become only the fifth team in Champions League history to overturn a three-goal deficit from the first leg, but they could only manage their first shot on target in the 65th minute, with Jeremie Frimpong testing Bayern’s goalkeeper.

As Leverkusen pushed for a comeback, Bayern exploited the spaces left behind, with Alphonso Davies converting Kane’s cross in the 71st minute to extend the lead.

Kane had chances to add to his tally, missing a good opportunity under little pressure before rattling the crossbar with a quick turn and shot. Jamal Musiala also hit the post late on after a swift counter-attack orchestrated by Serge Gnabry.

Bayern’s reward for their victory is a quarter-final clash against Inter Milan, who overcame Feyenoord in the previous round. The first leg is scheduled for 7/8 April, with the return leg a week later.
