The Johannesburg Stock Exchange Launches Claim It Campaign to Reunite South Africans with Unclaimed Dividends

The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) has recently unveiled its Claim It campaign, aimed at encouraging South Africans to check if they are entitled to a portion of the R4.5 billion in unclaimed dividends.

The initiative, a joint effort between the JSE and some of the largest companies listed on the exchange, seeks to return unclaimed dividends to their rightful owners. With access to nineteen issuer share registries, the JSE plans to reconnect approximately 375,000 former employees, shareholders, or beneficiaries of deceased estates with their unclaimed funds.

Several factors contribute to individuals being unaware of their unclaimed dividends, such as changing jobs, relocating to a new address, or updating banking information without informing listed companies. This lack of updated information makes it challenging to identify beneficiaries, resulting in delays in distributing unclaimed funds.

The verification process for determining eligibility for unclaimed dividends through the Claim It campaign is straightforward. Interested parties can visit the JSE website at www.jse.co.za/claimit to complete an online form or contact the JSE Claim It call centre at 0861 401 105 for assistance.

Required documents for the verification process include current contact information like cellphone and landline numbers, email address, and proof of address. The JSE will then cross-reference the provided details with shareholder information in the registries.

The nineteen companies collaborating with the JSE to facilitate the reconnection of South Africans with their unclaimed dividends are:

African Media Entertainment Ltd Finbond Group Ltd
Wilson Bayly Holmes-Ovcon Ltd YeboYethu
Advtech Ltd Cashbuild Ltd
Super Group Ltd Naspers Ltd
Mpact Ltd JSE Ltd
Reunert Ltd Merafe Resources Ltd
Northam Platinum Holdings Ltd Growthpoint Properties Ltd
Old Mutual Ltd Sasol Ltd
Sasol SA Ltd / Khanyisa Quilter PLC Sasol Inzalo

Lucas Radebe, a renowned sports figure in South Africa, has been appointed as an ambassador for the campaign. Known for his illustrious football career, philanthropic endeavors, and reputation as a symbol of inclusivity, Radebe embodies the values of trust and integrity central to the Claim It initiative.

For more information on claiming unclaimed dividends, visit www.jse.co.za/claimit or contact the JSE Claim It call centre at 0861 401 105. Stay updated by following the JSE on social media platforms like Facebook, X, and LinkedIn.
