Issuance of printed backlog of Ghana Cards begins in Greater Accra Region on April 7

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has finally announced a plan to address the backlog of unissued Ghana Cards and resume fresh registrations in the Greater Accra Region. This much-anticipated move comes after months of delays and frustration for many Ghanaians.

According to a press release issued on Sunday, the NIA stated that starting on Monday, April 7, all District Offices in the Greater Accra Region will begin issuing cards to individuals who applied for the Ghana Card between June 2023 and now but have not yet received them. This initiative is expected to provide relief to the thousands of individuals who have been waiting for their Ghana Cards, which are essential for accessing various government services and financial transactions.

Applicants are advised to visit the specific District Office where they initially registered to collect their cards. Additionally, the NIA is encouraging all Ghanaians aged 15 years and above who have not yet registered for the Ghana Card to visit any District Office in the Greater Accra Region starting on April 7 to complete the registration process, free of charge.

It is important to note that no fees should be paid for card issuance or first-time registration. The NIA has warned against any staff members who demand money for these services and urges the public to report any such incidents. However, replacement cards and updates to personal records will still incur a fee, as previously stated.

In conclusion, the NIA’s initiative to clear the backlog of unissued Ghana Cards and resume fresh registrations in the Greater Accra Region is a welcome development. Ghanaians are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to acquire their Ghana Cards and ensure they have access to essential services and benefits.
