Challenging Situation: Pregnant by My Sister’s Father-In-Law
Dear GhanaWeb,
I am a 27-year-old woman currently living with my elder sister and her husband. My sister, in her 30s, had her third baby and returned to work, so I moved in to help. I take care of the baby and assist with household chores, for which my sister pays me monthly.
Living in the house is my sister’s father-in-law, who was there before I moved in. As everyone leaves for work, it’s just the baby, the old man, and me at home, and over time, we grew close.
He’s in his 70s but still active, driving us when needed and being sharp and intelligent. Somehow, we ended up in a physical relationship, with him being persuasive and convincing.
He showered me with gifts and money, claiming he loved me and wanted to take care of me. My sister was unaware, and I didn’t see the harm since he didn’t have a wife. Now, I’m pregnant, and he’s leaving the decision to keep or abort the baby to me.
I feel conflicted about having a baby with someone older than my father and who is like a father-in-law to me. I don’t want to disappoint my family or abort another pregnancy. Despite his reassurances, I’m unsure about the future.
The man, unconcerned about societal norms, is content with the situation. I feel trapped and unsure how to proceed. Your advice is appreciated.
Sincerely,
FG/EB
