Nana Odeneho Oppong, the former Transport and Logistics Director at Jubilee House, has recently come forward to speak about what he describes as mistreatment during his time serving under the administration of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Despite being a strong supporter of Akufo-Addo’s campaign, Nana Oppong claims that he faced unfair treatment while working at Jubilee House, with the president failing to intervene on his behalf. He specifically accused the former Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Opare, of intentionally making his tenure difficult. According to him, he was suspended based on unfounded accusations driven by personal vendettas.
Nana Oppong expressed his disappointment in Akufo-Addo, calling him ungrateful for not standing by him when he needed support the most, despite his loyalty and sacrifices during the campaign. He lamented the lack of defense from the president in times of trouble, highlighting the sacrifices he made to support Akufo-Addo financially and otherwise.
In a candid statement, Nana Oppong revealed the maltreatment he endured at the hands of the Chief of Staff, stating, “the kind of maltreatment that the Chief of Staff made me go through, if I say it, I will cry…It is very sad.” He also questioned whether he would have received the same treatment if he were someone like Ken Ofori-Atta.
Nana Oppong further disclosed that he is not the only one who has faced such treatment within the government, suggesting that many others have endured similar experiences but have chosen to remain silent. He recounted a specific incident where he was accused by the Chief of Staff of plotting to remove Albert Kan-Dapaah as National Security Minister in favor of Bryan Acheampong, leading to a heated confrontation.
Despite the challenges he faced, Nana Oppong remains vocal about his experiences, shedding light on the inner workings of the government. His story serves as a reminder of the complexities and challenges faced by individuals working within political administrations.
It is crucial to address issues of mistreatment and unfair practices in the workplace, regardless of the setting. Nana Oppong’s courage in speaking out against his experiences is commendable and may inspire others to do the same. As we strive for a more equitable and just society, it is essential to listen to and support those who speak out against injustice.
