President John Dramani Mahama has entrusted the newly appointed Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, with the crucial task of revitalizing all sporting disciplines in Ghana and restoring the country’s former glory in the world of sports.
During the swearing-in ceremony of 17 ministers, including Adams, the President emphasized the pressing need for a transformation in the Sports Ministry due to the current state of sports in the country. Mahama underscored the challenges faced by the sector, deeming them unacceptable, and urged Adams to bring fresh ideas and ethical practices to rejuvenate sports in Ghana.
In his address, Mahama urged Adams to prioritize the development of sports holistically by giving equal attention to all sporting disciplines, including the lesser-known sports that often do not receive the same level of recognition.
The President specifically highlighted the Ghana Football Association (GFA) as a focal point for Adams to concentrate on initially. He emphasized the importance of rebuilding all sports disciplines, starting with the GFA, in order to bring the Black Stars back to their former glory days.
Adams’ primary objective will be to ensure that the Black Stars qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico. The upcoming matches against Chad and Madagascar in March will serve as his first major challenge in steering the national team towards securing a spot in the prestigious tournament.
In conclusion, Adams has been tasked with the monumental responsibility of reviving Ghana’s sports sector and elevating the country’s status in the global sporting arena. With a focus on transparency, professionalism, and modernization, Adams is expected to implement strategic measures that will propel Ghana back to its rightful place among the elite in the world of sports.
