Dear GhanaWeb,

I’ve been in a relationship with my girlfriend for about a year and a half now. A year into our relationship, she decided to move in with me.

I’m 28, and she’s 25.

A few weeks ago, I came home from work, and she was standing in the living room with a smile on her face, showing me a positive pregnancy test.

At first, I thought it was some sort of TikTok prank, so I played along. When she didn’t reveal it was a joke, I began to realise what had really happened, but I continued playing along.

Later that night, I got up at midnight and started emailing my best friends, giving them all the details and asking them to pretend they knew nothing and be prepared for what was coming.

I took a week off from work and planned things out. The next morning, I left for work as usual but didn’t actually go to work. One of my friends was waiting outside for me, and the whole week, we followed my girlfriend.

On the third day, she met up with her affair partner, and they went to a hotel. After that, my girlfriend booked a ride, and my friend decided to follow the man home. It turned out that the man was married with kids.

We devised a plan. I convinced my girlfriend to go to her parents’ house to tell them the “good news.” While she was there, I gave my friends the keys to my place. My girlfriend broke the news to her parents, and everyone was happy.

After a while, I got a call from my friends saying they were ready. I then asked to make an announcement. I called my girlfriend in front of her family, and they probably thought I was going to propose.

Instead, I started by telling them how we met, how much I loved her, and how much it hurt to know that she had cheated on me and gotten pregnant by someone else.

The room fell silent, and my girlfriend looked shocked. I told her that the moment she told me she was pregnant, I knew she had cheated.

She didn’t know that I had a vasectomy five years ago and that I get yearly check-ups.

At that moment, her phone rang. I asked her to answer the call, and it was the father of her baby, probably discussing whether or not he was going to leave his wife and kids to be with her.

Apparently, he didn’t approve of her moving in with him, so she was told to stay with her parents since she couldn’t come back to my house.

It’s been a week now, and this morning her sister called me, saying my girlfriend is a shadow of herself.

She asked me to hear her out and let her explain what happened and why she cheated. I honestly don’t feel there’s anything she could say to justify what she did.

She offered to abort the child if that would make me take her back, but I told her that wouldn’t change anything.

She secretly took pills to abort the baby and even threatened to kill herself if I didn’t accept her back. I still love her, but she broke my trust, and it would be really hard to trust her again.

I know she loves me, but I can’t understand why she chose to cheat on me.

I’m now at a crossroads, should I give her another chance, or should I move on with my life? I’m confused and just want to make the right decision, one that will be best for both of us. I really need help.
