Nabila Shamshum is one of the top three finalists of Season 5 of MasterChef South Africa, alongside Bridget Mangwandi and Chanel Brink. When she first entered the reality cooking show, her main goal was simply not to get eliminated. However, as the competition progressed, she found herself growing and learning more than she ever expected.

The 23-year-old contestant has been a fan favorite on the show due to her modest and kind demeanor. Despite the intense pressure of the competition, Nabila has managed to stay grounded and focused on her passion for cooking. Throughout the challenges, she has showcased her culinary skills and creativity, winning three individual challenges along the way.

One of the most challenging aspects of the competition for Nabila has been dealing with the stress of not knowing what the judges will say about her dishes. Despite her doubts and fears, she has managed to push through and impress the judges with her innovative dishes. The panel of judges, including renowned chefs Justine Drake, Zola Nene, and Katlego Mlambo, have provided valuable feedback and guidance to help Nabila improve her cooking skills.

Nabila’s love for cooking stems from her upbringing in a mixed Afrikaans and Arabic household, where food played a significant role in family relationships. Her mother’s influence on her appreciation for cooking and her father’s Arabic heritage have shaped her culinary passion and palate. She has drawn inspiration from her parents’ diverse backgrounds and culinary traditions, incorporating a blend of flavors and ingredients into her dishes.

Throughout the competition, Nabila has received unwavering support from her family, especially her brothers, who have been cheering her on from the sidelines. As the youngest sibling, she feels a sense of pride in making her family proud and honoring their cultural heritage through her cooking.

The final episode of MasterChef SA, where Nabila will compete against Bridget and Chanel for the title, is set to air on S3 (formerly SABC 3) on Saturday, 23 November at 8.30 pm. Despite the challenges and uncertainties she has faced on the show, Nabila remains determined to showcase her culinary skills and passion for cooking in the final showdown.
