The Minister of Sports, Arts, and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, has proven his unwavering support for multi-award-winning musician Makhadzi by exceeding his promise to purchase tickets for her upcoming one-woman show. Initially pledging to buy 200 tickets, the minister went above and beyond by acquiring 600 tickets for the highly anticipated event.
Makhadzi expressed her gratitude towards Minister McKenzie, stating, “I am so grateful to Minister Gayton McKenzie for his support. I feel like everyone believes in me. When ministers and politicians start getting involved in your work, it means they see value in you as an artist. For me, this show is going to be successful because everyone believes in it. That gives me hope.”
The anticipation for Makhadzi’s one-woman show is palpable, with the artist recently hosting a press conference at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, where the concert is set to take place on 21 December. Makhadzi shared that she has been working towards this milestone for years and is thrilled that her dream is finally coming to fruition.
Reflecting on her experience at the BET Awards in Los Angeles earlier this year, Makhadzi drew inspiration for the grand vision of her show. She envisioned bringing world-class production to her hometown, following the success of her previous one-woman show in Botswana. With the support of Minister McKenzie and her team at Makhadzi Entertainment, the stage is set for a historic event at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Lucky Tshilimandila, Makhadzi Entertainment’s manager, expressed confidence in the show’s success, stating, “We are dubbing this show a history-making event – the first of its kind at Peter Mokaba Stadium, led by an artist from the province of Polokwane, particularly from Venda.” Despite the stadium’s capacity being limited to 32,000 tickets, the ground tickets have already sold out, indicating a promising turnout for the show.
As preparations continue for Makhadzi’s one-woman show, fans and supporters eagerly anticipate a memorable and groundbreaking event that will showcase the artist’s talent and vision on a grand scale. The Minister’s generous gesture and the overwhelming support from the community serve as a testament to Makhadzi’s rising star in the music industry.
