Shamim Nabuuma’s journey from a final year medical student to the founder of Chil Femtech Center is nothing short of inspiring. Born and raised in Uganda, Nabuuma was driven by her desire to make a difference in her community. While studying medicine at Makerere University, she witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by rural communities in accessing proper healthcare, particularly in cancer care.

In 2017, during her final year of medical school, Nabuuma decided to take action. She founded Chil Femtech Center, initially known as Chil AI Lab, with the aim of bridging the gap in healthcare access in rural Uganda. With over 73% of Uganda’s population residing in rural areas, the lack of healthcare professionals in these regions was a pressing issue not unique to Uganda but a common problem across Africa.

Nabuuma’s vision was to create a mobile cancer screening clinic that would bring vital healthcare services directly to rural communities. Recognizing the high prevalence of breast and cervical cancer in sub-Saharan Africa and the lack of awareness leading to late-stage diagnoses and high mortality rates, she set out to educate and screen women in these underserved areas.

The mobile clinic visited rural communities, engaging with women’s groups who pooled their resources to fund the screenings. Nabuuma and her team of healthcare professionals set up tents, conducted screenings, and provided vital information on early detection and prevention. The impact was immediate, with communities requesting the clinic to visit and overwhelming the small team with the demand for screenings.

To address the growing need and streamline operations, Nabuuma introduced technology into the clinic. A website was created to educate women on breast and cervical cancer, offering telemedicine consultations and a chatbot for immediate answers to health-related questions. Recognizing the importance of accessibility, especially in rural areas with limited internet connectivity, a dial version of the chatbot was implemented to cater to those without smartphones.

The initial funding from the Tony Elumelu Foundation provided a much-needed boost to scale the operations of Chil Femtech Center and alleviate the financial burden on Nabuuma. The combination of on-the-ground screenings, education, and technology has transformed healthcare access for women in rural Uganda, offering hope and a lifeline in the fight against cancer.

Shamim Nabuuma’s dedication, innovation, and commitment to improving healthcare for underserved communities exemplify the power of one individual to make a significant impact. Chil Femtech Center stands as a beacon of hope and a testament to what can be achieved when passion meets purpose in the pursuit of a better tomorrow. This predictive analysis helps doctors tailor treatment plans for individual patients, increasing the chances of successful outcomes.

With the success of KETI in improving healthcare accessibility and outcomes in rural Africa, Chil Femtech Center is looking to expand its services to more regions and countries across the continent. The goal is to ensure that no one is left behind in accessing quality healthcare services.

Nabuuma’s journey from starting a mobile cancer screening clinic to developing an AI-driven healthcare platform is a testament to the power of innovation and perseverance in addressing critical healthcare challenges. Through KETI, Chil Femtech Center is transforming healthcare delivery in rural Africa and empowering individuals to take charge of their health.

As the healthcare landscape continues to evolve, solutions like KETI offer hope for a future where healthcare is accessible to all, regardless of geographical location or socioeconomic status. With technology as an enabler, the possibilities for improving healthcare outcomes are endless, and initiatives like Chil Femtech Center are leading the way towards a healthier and more equitable future for all.

Chil Femtech Center, founded by Sarah Nabuuma, is making waves in the healthcare industry with its innovative AI-powered platform, KETI. This platform analyzes data and provides evidence-based treatment recommendations for cancer patients at different stages of the disease. Doctors can upload patient medical history and receive guidance on treatment options, ultimately improving patient care and outcomes.

The future of Chil Femtech Center looks promising as it expands its services to more regions across Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. Nabuuma envisions scaling Chil to rural areas to ensure that all populations have access to quality healthcare. She believes that democratizing healthcare access is essential for the well-being of Africans and aims to bridge the gap between urban and rural healthcare services.

AI technology is revolutionizing the healthcare industry, and Chil Femtech Center is at the forefront of this transformation. With the increasing adoption of healthtech solutions in Africa, investors are showing interest in the innovative solutions offered by companies like Chil. By leveraging AI technology, Chil Femtech Center is paving the way for a brighter and healthier future for patients across the globe.
