The House of Representatives overwhelmingly rejected a resolution to impeach President Donald Trump over the U.S. strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities. The resolution, put forth by Rep. Al Green (D-Texas), was tabled with a vote of 344-79.

The resolution accused Trump of bypassing Congress in launching strikes on the Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan nuclear sites. Green argued that Trump’s actions constituted “high crimes and misdemeanors” as he failed to seek prior authorization from Congress for the use of military force. He also criticized the lack of briefing or notification to Congressional leaders before the attacks.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that Congressional leaders were only notified after U.S. military planes had left Iranian airspace. Green contended that Trump violated the war powers clause of the Constitution, which reserves the power to declare war solely for Congress.

In response, White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers defended the strikes, stating that Trump’s leadership had successfully eliminated Iran’s nuclear program and secured a ceasefire. Trump himself dismissed calls for impeachment from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), challenging Democrats to proceed with impeachment.

Ocasio-Cortez, in turn, criticized Trump for his unauthorized military action and accused him of betraying the American people and the Constitution. The impeachment resolution highlighted Trump’s alleged abuse of presidential powers by ordering military strikes without Congressional authorization, violating the separation of powers doctrine.
