Curious Baby Elephant Gives Tourist a Scare in Thailand Sanctuary
A tourist visiting a sanctuary in Mae Wang, Thailand’s Chiang Mai province, got more than she bargained for when a curious baby elephant decided to play with her in late March.
The heartwarming video captured the moment the young calf interacted with tourists, eliciting laughter and chatter from the onlookers. The playful nature of the baby elephant was on full display as it approached the visitors with affection.
However, the mood quickly shifted when the calf attempted to cuddle with a female tourist, causing her to fall to the ground. The initial laughter turned into screams as the friendly elephant unintentionally displayed its strength by mounting the woman.
Despite the unexpected turn of events, the woman seemed to take the incident in stride, laughing as the elephant playfully interacted with her. A child nearby screamed in shock as the tourist fell, highlighting the unpredictable nature of interactions with wild animals.
Thankfully, the elephant keepers intervened promptly to prevent any harm to the woman, removing the excitable calf from the situation. The filmer, as reported by ViralPress, mentioned that the baby elephant was simply trying to play and was unaware of its own strength due to its young age.
It is not uncommon for elephants in sanctuaries to form strong bonds with humans, often leading to playful interactions. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of respecting wild animals’ boundaries, even in seemingly harmless encounters.
Interestingly, a similar incident occurred in Phuket, Thailand, last year when a tourist attempted to approach an elephant at a sanctuary. The video of the adult elephant knocking the woman to the ground went viral, emphasizing the need for caution and respect when interacting with these majestic creatures.
