The National Celebrations Planning Committee (NCPC) has put together a comprehensive schedule of events to commemorate Ghana’s 68th Independence anniversary. The festivities are set to kick off with the remembrance of the 28th February Crossroad Shooting Incident on Friday, 28th February 2025. This will be followed by the finals of a nationwide school quiz competition on Sunday, 2nd March 2025, and a debate competition on Tuesday, 4th March 2025.

President will be hosting the annual School Children Awards Programme on Wednesday, 5th March 2025, leading up to the grand ceremonial parade at the forecourt of the presidency on Thursday, 6th March 2025.

In the build-up to the 28th February event, the Communications Subcommittee of the NCPC will be rolling out historical and educational content to raise public awareness and engagement. The committee aims to reignite the interest and involvement of the youth and the general population in this significant national event while honoring our heroes.

The theme for an X-space conversation to be held as part of the program is “The Changing Face of Civil Protests in Ghana: Lessons from the Past and Present.” The committee is also encouraging radio, television, online, and print media to host discussions and publish content to promote the anniversary theme and other activities to increase public participation.

The wreath-laying ceremony will be held at the Nationalism Park at 8 a.m. on Friday, 28th February 2025, and will be broadcast live on multiple platforms. The public and media are encouraged to actively participate in this solemn event.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, has called on stakeholders to show their support for the anniversary celebrations. He emphasized the importance of the media, bloggers, and the public in sharing information with their audience to create awareness and promote active participation.
