The 2024 edition of the awards ceremony took place in Lagos, Nigeria, where several Ghanaian actors, including Jackie Appiah, were nominated in leading categories and invited to attend. One of the invited guests, Gloria Sarfo, shared her disappointing experience on social media after what was supposed to be an all-expenses-paid trip turned into a nightmare.

According to Gloria, she and her colleagues, including veteran actors, were shocked to find out that their flight tickets were invalid at the airport. They were left stranded for hours without any communication from the organizers, despite reaching out for help. The situation was so chaotic that even the media personnel present were unable to capture the embarrassing ordeal.

Gloria expressed her frustration, stating, “You can’t invite me on an all-expenses-paid trip and leave me stranded at the airport. The embarrassment was unbearable!” She also mentioned that other prominent filmmakers, such as Abdul Salam Mumuni, Akorfa Edjeani Aseidu, and Julia Apea, were also affected by the mishap.

The Ghanaian actress criticized the unequal treatment Ghanaians receive compared to their Nigerian counterparts, emphasizing that they would not have been treated in the same manner. She also highlighted the impact the incident had on her schedule, as she missed four important appointments, including a movie set, a feature film by a colleague, an awards night she was nominated for, and her own movie premiere.

Overall, Gloria Sarfo’s experience at the awards ceremony in Nigeria shed light on the challenges faced by Ghanaian actors in the industry and raised important questions about fairness and equality in the entertainment world.
